Over 50 years ago a pharmacist from New Jersey by the name of Louis Bender decided to develop a therapeutic skin cream to help the many customers that frequented his pharmacy with damaged skin caused by the ravages of radiation, dialysis and other aggressive treatments as well as others that were bed ridden. To be effective it had to reduce inflammation, itching and burning quickly without being greasy. Instead of employing the formulation methods of the day which used oils and extracts from fruits and vegetable and derivatives of petroleum he decided to formulate the cream utilizing the principals of hydration set forth by Master Dermatologist Dr. Alfred Kligman, who today is considered the Father of Dermatology. An effective therapeutic moisturizing cream was produced and sold regionally for 25 years.

About a year and a half ago during a phone conversation with my good friend and business partner Martin Bender, he mentioned his father’s development of that therapeutic cream many years ago. This really peaked my interest, so I asked him if he still had any samples and the original formulas and if so to send me some. When we opened a 35 year old jar rather than finding a dried out, cracked and discolored product, we found it to be creamy, white and smooth as if it was made the day before. Rather amazing don’t you think? As a matter of fact that was the first of a number of amazing things I learned about the properties of this product.

The first use of the cream for me was when my grandson Dylan got an itchy rash which he proceeded to scratch until it became inflamed. With the approval of my daughter Lisa a former nurse we applied a small amount to the area. After about ten minutes Dylan said it doesn’t itch anymore and by the very next day all traces of the rash where gone. To this day he still calls it “Grandpa’s Magic Cream”. On another occasion, my wife Betsy sent the cream to her father Bruce who has a bad case of psoriasis. After a few weeks of use there was a tremendous reduction of the drying, flaking and redness of the skin thus restoring it to a greater degree of comfort he had not found with traditional psoriasis treatments in the past. There are many other scenarios that I could go on and on about but the results are always the same – an improvement of the skin condition.

At my urging, Martin who is also a pharmacist and I decided to update and reintroduce the product now known as MARBO Therapeutic Skin Crème. This new formulation brings something very innovative to the field of moisturizers. It produces a time-release function corresponding to the body’s natural rate of hydration. It has been used effectively on a number of skin conditions such as psoriasis, rosacea and eczema with extraordinary results. It has also led to the development of another effective and innovative product called MARBO Scar Reduction Crème. Between father and son there is over 100 years of pharmaceutical experience not easily matched.
